Summer 2019 Project in Development`
Granite Exfoliation
Investigate one of the primary features of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the beautiful crisply-white granite. Now, these granite rocks sit high above the Sacramento Valley but did you know that they were once deep below the Earth’s surface and the Sierras were fiery volcanoes?
The investigation will included field trips in the foothills and a chance to examine granite under the microscope at Stanford University’s optical mineralogy lab.
Project participants will produce a professional scientific poster and present at the American Geophysical Union Conference in San Francisco in December 2019.
